Sunday 1-20-13 Climbing Back Up

Posted on by

Just loaded and washed the truck, including a 40# bag of dog food, and my back seems to be hanging in there.  I had a very encouraging phone call from my dear friend Laura this morning, and some wonderful info on the trail from the Race Organizers, and it sounds like it’s going to be quite possible to run it, even with my limitations.  I’m so very thankful, that it appears we will actually get ro race this week!  We’ve once again climbed back up from where we had crashed, moving “On By Grace”, to the JOY God will bless us with!

God does not send us two classes of providences–one good, and one evil. All are good. Affliction is God’s goodness in the seed. It takes time for a seed to grow and to  develop into fruitfulness. Many of the best things of our lives–come to us first as pain, suffering, earthly loss or disappointment–black seeds without beauty–but afterward they grow into the rich harvest of righteousness!”         J.R. Miller

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11

Fri 1-19-13 “What Could Possibly Go Wrong?”
Writing my last entry, I joked about this statement in referring to my last week of training before our race. It isn’t a joke anymore… Continue reading

Saturday 1-12-13 The Hump

Silly Siberians

My alarm went off at 3:50 am this morning, followed by a very quick dressing, dropping dogs and loading the last few items, and we were on the road again by 4:30.  Got to work to drop off my sled (so I didn’t have to pay the over height charge for the ferry home, which ends up being double the ticket price), fed and dropped dogs again, and drove the last few miles to the ferry landing.

While yesterday I woke up feeling healthier, even though I got up at a crazy early time, today I’m actually feeling excited for the upcoming races for the first time in weeks.  I feel like we’re over the “very-steep-learning-curve-of-a-hump”!  I’m actually catching myself wondering about more mid-distance races next year!  (GASP)  I know we have one more week of training, but what could possibly go wrong?  Continue reading

Friday 1-11-13 The Cliff Note

Going Up to Meadow Pass

I woke up Friday morning with something that felt very unfamiliar… energy and health.  I felt much more like myself this morning and was anxious to get going before I ran out of steam!  I wasn’t sure how long it would last!  Pam and I got back to Crystal and the temps were nice and cold, and the parking lot was much firmer than yesterday.  I parked in the same spot and ignored the rude man who’s dogs were again loose in the adjacent parking lot.  I was thankful he put them inside after we arrived.  Connie showed up soon to run with us, but since I was hoping for some longer miles, I left first.  I didn’t have any specific goal in mind today other than to go as far and as fast as my team (and I) could go.  I didn’t want to do any big hill climbing, but instead wanted more miles and wanted them to be FUN miles for the dogs.  Continue reading

Lost Lake Road

I woke up this morning wondering if my cold was coming back… scratchy throat and more congestion.  I am sore from yesterday’s drive and run (short as it was, it was tough going).  I am feeling discouraged and sad today… we’ve worked so hard to meet our goals (the goals I felt led to commit to earlier in the season) and the race is now canceled, and even though I’ve changed our plans, our previous fitness we had worked up to seems to be slipping through my hands.  Continue reading

Wed 1-9-13 More Parking Lot Woes!

4 Dog Loop

More disappointment and frustration; more responsibilities are left undone… I pushed myself while still sick to spend a half day packing and then found myself wide awake at midnight.  Slept til 4:30am and loaded dogs onto the ferry, drove to work where I loaded the sled and drove 3 hours to Crystal Springs.  I pulled off the Interstate and the phone rang.  I answered it and it was Pam saying she had just gotten stuck in the parking lot and didn’t know if we could even make it to the trails.  I could NOT believe it… ANOTHER PARKING LOT SITUATION!  This time instead of being snowbound in the SnoPark Parking Lot, we couldn’t even get into this SnoPark Parking Lot! Breaking Trail

It’s been a while since posting last, partly because a LOT has happened, and partly because I’ve been sofa bound for a few days with a cold.  I’ll try and catch you up on the highlights…
